The Joenkielinen route is a captivating day route in Finland's largest national park, embraced by the gentle shelter of centuries-old Scots pines. The hiking trip is crowned by climbing to the summit of Joenkielinen fell. You can also easily connect the Joenkielinen route as part of a longer trek.
The route winds through a centuries-old pine forest a short distance from the Lemmenjoki River before starting a steep ascent towards the summit of Joenkielinen fell. The efforts at the summit are rewarded with views stretching far to the horizon over the fell chains and the enchanting Lemmenjoki river valley.
During the hike, you can enjoy food in the river valley at the campfire and tenting sites of Muurahaislampi or Sotkajärvi. After reaching the fell summit and turning towards the return descent, you will find Juurakkooja's kota shelter in the shade of the pine forest, offering a resting place and weather protection.
The hiking trip starts at Metsähallitus parking area in the village of Lemmenjoki (Njurgulahti).

Safety information
The Joenkielinen route is well marked in the terrain, but weather conditions at the fell summit can sometimes be challenging and visibility poor, so hikers must have basic map and compass skills.
A topographic map and compass must be carried.
There are mobile phone dead zones where it does not work at all.
Note that the ascent to Joenkielinen is steep. The route is slippery when wet.
