Roadbook
The route is usually skied from Luosto to Pyhä due to the longer downhill sections and better views. The route starts from Luostonportti near the slopes, rising towards Lampivaara, where the first rest stop and trail café are located. From Lampivaara, the trail pleasantly descends towards the Pyhälampi day hut. From Pyhälampi, the trail winds up the side of Latvavaara, descends near the rental hut at Kuukkeli, and then climbs again towards the Porontahtoma lean-to and the Kapusta day hut. At Kapusta, the trail reaches its highest point and, if lucky, you can ski among trees covered in frost. The trail continues downhill towards the rental hut at Huttujärvi, after which you can either finish skiing on the shorter route via Kiimaselä or embark on a longer loop around the Pyhä fell chain via the Salmiaava and Haarainselä day huts. If you continue on the shorter route, you will pass the wilderness hut at Huttuloma after a small hill, then continue gently downhill towards the Kiimaselä day hut. The final stretch towards Pyhä goes through bogs and forests, with fell views occasionally peeking through beautifully. The return or outbound journey can be done by SkiBus. The route is a clear trail and mainly follows summer routes, which have various route markings. There are signposts at intersections.
The route is intermediate in difficulty due to elevation changes and challenging because of its length. It includes fairly steep downhills, fast curves, and long uphills. Due to its length, the route also requires better equipment, including proper snacks and warm clothing. The route is not recommended for beginners; skiers need braking skills on downhills and good ski control.
