The Rumakuru trail leads you to admire the world's most beautiful Rumakuru! The highlight of the trail through the fell terrain is the steep-walled gorge, shaped by meltwaters from the last Ice Age. The gorge is one of the natural attractions in the Saariselkä area, and a must-see when visiting the region. During winter the gorge itself may pose an avalanche risk, and in summer there is danger from falling rocks. It is advisable to admire the gorge from a safe distance.

    Roadbook

From the Saariselkä starting gate, walk about half a kilometer, after which the path continues for about 4 km along the southwestern slope of Iisakkipää Fell. From the edge of the Easter Gorge, the path branches off from the Iisakkipää nature trail, continuing along the western slope of Vahtamapää Fell to the intersection of four trails/tracks. From there, it is about 1 km to the Rumakuru day hut. In summer, the return route initially follows the same path for 0.5 km as when going in. Then the route climbs to the summit of Vävypää Fell. From the summit, the path descends to the Piispanoja campfire hut, from which it is 4 km to the Saariselkä starting gate. In winter, the return route follows the same ski track for 1 km as on the way in. From the intersection of four ski tracks, turn to the southbound track. The track runs for just over 3 km along the slope of Vävypää and leads to the Piispanoja campfire hut. From there, it is still 4 km to the Saariselkä starting gate. The Rumakuru trail can be done in both directions. If you want to extend the hike, you can combine it with other trails.
