On this trail, you can experience the peace, joy, and magic of winter nature. In early winter, the route may be lined with snow-covered trees in fantastical shapes, while later in spring the bright sunlight at Ukko-Luosto’s scenic hut and along the ridge feels especially warming. Snowshoeing among the twisted pines of the ancient forests on the fell leaves no one cold. At the turnaround point at Torvisen Maja, you can crown your fell adventure with delicious treats by the fireplace.

Enjoy a break in the warmth of Ukko-Luosto's scenic cabin, and learn about the fell nature's annual cycle and natural light phenomena in the cabin's small nature exhibition.

    Roadbook

The route begins at Luostonportti, from where you go through the ski slope parking area to its northwest corner, where next to the slope restaurant, at the forest edge, there is a brown snowshoe route sign marking the start of the path. The path first leads to Tikkalaavu, from where it begins climbing a steep hill to Ukko-Luosto's northern ridge. This highest point of the route is a particularly magical place especially during rime snow conditions. The Ukko-Luosto scenic cabin located at the tree line is a good rest point after the climb. The route continues along the ridge towards the north, with the forest thinning occasionally to reveal fine views further away. The path eventually descends to the ski track around Ukko-Luosto, and the red wooden building of Torvisen Maja appears ahead. The route is an out-and-back route, returning along the same path. Route markings and signs: blue grooming markers, brown metal signs at intersections.

The route is intermediate in difficulty due to elevation changes. Weather conditions (snowfall and winds) can make the route more challenging. There are no services on the route.
