Experience the vicinity of the majestic Ukko-Luosto fell, enjoy the untouched atmosphere of the old forests, and admire the views from Pikku-Luosto summit. You may break a sweat climbing Pikku-Luosto and Lampivaara, but the reward is beautiful scenery and lovely café treats. During heavy snow, the views at Pikku-Luosto and Lampivaara are truly magical. At Lampivaara, you can also visit on a guided tour to dig your own amethyst at the Lampivaara Amethyst Mine.
The route starts at Luostonportti near the slopes, following its own path above the Ukko-Luosto parking area across Pikku-Luosto towards Lampivaara. The return route follows the Lampivaara maintenance road. The route is marked with blue snow grooming poles, and intersections have brown metal signs.

The route runs at the beginning and end on a trail that is also allowed for winter cycling. Cyclists must yield to walkers but should take other users of the route into account.

Roadbook
The route starts at Luostonportti, initially running near the ski trail, in the forest to the right of the trail. About 300 meters ahead, the route leaves the trail to the right and starts climbing the side of Ukko-Luosto. The route passes the edge of the open fell area, then passes a small cottage area and just before the Ukko-Luosto parking area, the snowshoeing route turns right. The route winds on the slope of Ukko-Luosto through the forest, crosses the nearly treeless summit of Pikku-Luosto and arrives beside the Lampivaara lean-to shelter. The return route follows the maintenance road to Lampivaara through the forest on the left side of the road and joins the initial part of the route after the Ukko-Luosto parking area. The route can be traveled in either direction, but it is easier to go uphill on steeper slopes with snowshoes, so the recommended direction is counterclockwise. The route can also be started from the Ukko-Luosto parking area. Route markings and signposts: blue snow grooming poles, brown metal signs at intersections.
The route is moderate difficulty due to elevation changes. Weather conditions (snowfall and winds) may make the route more challenging. There is no maintenance on the route, but the beginning and end sections run along a winter cycling route that is groomed once a week.

Directions
You can reach the route's starting point at Luostonportti by driving from Luosto village, 500 meters up Luostontie from in front of Lapland Hotel Luostotunturi towards the slopes. Before the slopes, the road goes under an arch bridge, after which the starting point of Luostonportti is immediately to the left. There is a parking area at the starting point. An alternative starting point is the Ukko-Luosto parking area, which you reach by turning onto Ukko-Luostontie about 2 km from Luosto village towards Pyhä; the road winds about 1.5 km uphill before the parking area.
