The power of the Ice Age has been magnificent. As large ice masses moved and ground the landscape, fells remained, which are actually the roots of mountains. Today, this ruggedly beautiful nature offers incredible hiking experiences. Enjoy the vast barren fell landscape stretching as far as the eye can see, where gently rounded peaks alternate with steep gorges and babbling streams!

The route has mobile network shadow areas where phones do not work at all.

    Roadbook

The Ahopää trail starting from the Kiilopää fell center ascends towards the reindeer fence for the first 0.5 km. The next 1.5 km path runs along the fell birch forest, following the slope of Ahopää and the reindeer fence. On the west side of the trail, you can see a purnu, a rocky depression where meat was historically stored. After this, the path diverges from the reindeer fence and continues gently uphill for about 2 km to Vävypää. The next 1.5 km is a descent to the old Rumakuru hut. From Rumakuru, the journey continues on easy terrain to the Luulampi day hut. The toughest part of the Ahopää scenic trail is the segment from Luulampi to Kiilopää. The path climbs sometimes steeply over 1.5 km until reaching the reindeer fence. After this, the trail descends the last 2.5 km towards Kiilopää and the fell center. The landscape of Ahopää opens on the north side of the trail. A glimpse of the massiveness of Kiilopää can be seen on the south side of the path. The trail can be hiked in both directions.
