Roadbook
Starting from the Luosto gate, first walk along the ski trail base northwards towards the Luostonloma parking area. The first resting spot, Tikkalaavu, is already along this section. From Luostonloma, cross the road and ascend along the fell ridge to Keski-Luosto, from where there are magnificent views towards Ukko-Luosto.
After Keski-Luosto, the route heads northwest above the Perhe-Luosto ski slopes. In the terrain, you may encounter old structures of a ski lift that is no longer in use. After Perhe-Luosto, the journey continues along the fell ridge of Yli-Luosto to the national park's oldest wilderness hut, built in 1949. Near the hut is Luostonoja, the only water point on the route where you can obtain potable water by boiling it.
When returning by the same route, the journey length doubles. The route is classified as moderately difficult since the path is mostly rocky.
If you wish, you can continue from the Yli-Luosto wilderness hut northwest for about 6 km to the Rovaniemi road; the route can also be traveled from this direction. There is a brown-based Pyhä-Luosto sign on the side of the Rovaniemi road guiding the right way. The gravel road is in poor condition, and there is no designated parking area north of the route, but you can leave your car on a pull-off found by the roadside. There is also a connection from this route to the 30 km long Pyhä-Luosto hiking trail.
