Roadbook
The route can be skied in either direction, but the most common direction is counterclockwise, starting from Luostonportti towards Torvinen's Lodge. The route begins with a gentle uphill section, past Tikkalaavu, climbing towards the gorge covered in rime ice in early winter between Ukko-Luosto and Keski-Luosto. A short downhill leads past the Luostonloma parking lot towards the atmospheric Torvinen's Lodge, which is the area's oldest café and still off-grid. The track continues on the west side of Ukko-Luosto, rolling among old spruces. Approaching the halfway rest stop, Ukko-Laavu, the steep and treeless fell wall of Ukko-Luosto becomes visible through the forest. From Ukko-Laavu, there is a beautiful view of the fell. From the shelter, the journey continues with only small hills until the climb steepens before Lampivaara. Lampivaara has a lean-to and a ski café, as well as the possibility to visit the Amethyst Mine. The final part back to Luosto is a pleasantly fast downhill. The route is a clear ski track that follows the summer route marked with short wooden poles with blue and white walking/skier symbols. There are signposts at intersections.
The route is of moderate difficulty due to elevation changes. In some places, there are steep downhill sections, fast curves, and long uphill climbs. The route is not recommended for beginners; the skier must have braking skills on hills and good ski control.
