The route follows the Ice Age-formed fjell chain connecting the fjell centers Pyhä and Luosto, simply following the path through ancient forests. Between the trees, you can view the impressive fjell landscape. There are numerous rest areas where you can calmly complete the short stages of the route and enjoy the breaks. Around Luosto-Lampivaara, you can stop for a coffee or visit an amethyst mine. Other atmospheric rest spots include the huts of Pyhälampi, Kapusta, and Kiimaselkä as well as the shelter Porontahtoma. Along the route, you can also stay in rental huts in Kuukkeli or Huttujärvi or in the wilderness hut of Huttuloma. The route is suitable for people with good fitness and also mountain bike beginners. Most of the route is easy to ride, but especially the section between Porontahtoma and Huttujärvi is more difficult due to geological conditions, sharp quartzite stones—remember suitable equipment for fixing tires.

    Safety information

Allow sufficient time. The route has rocky sections: reduce your speed and push the bike if necessary. A large part of the rock in Pyhä-Luosto consists of hard quartzites that can easily damage tires. Bring a fully charged mobile phone. The gravel-covered paths can become quickly and surprisingly slippery—ride carefully. When wet, rocky and root-covered sections are very slippery. Hikers also use the trails—cyclists must reduce their speed when encountering others on the way.
