The route is mostly easy, but some visible stones can be slippery when wet. Gravel-covered paths can be fast and surprisingly slippery, so ride carefully. The route is popular, especially between Lampivaara and Luosto, where hikers also walk – cyclists are obliged to slow down when meeting others on the route.Tips and suggestions
Mountain biking in Pyhä-Luosto National Park is restricted: cycling prohibition areas are marked on maps and in the terrain. Mountain biking trails are separately marked. Also, cycling is allowed on most summer hiking trails, although they are not specially maintained for mountain biking.
Roadbook
The route can be ridden in both directions, but the most common direction is counterclockwise, starting from Luostonportti towards Torvisen Maja. The route climbs a gentle slope at the beginning, passes Tikkalaavu, and climbs to the saddle between Ukko-Luosto and Keski-Luosto. A short downhill leads past Luostonloma parking lot towards Torvisen Maja. The route continues along the west side of Ukko-Luosto, gently rolling among old spruces. Approaching the halfway resting place, Ukko-Laavu, the rugged and treeless fell wall of Ukko-Luosto begins to peek through the forest. There is a great view of the fell from Ukko-Laavu. From the hut, the journey continues with only small uphill sections until the climb steepens before Lampivaara. In this section, the track is partly single track and the climb is steep. Lampivaara has a shelter and café, as well as the opportunity to visit the Amethyst Mine. The final route back to Luosto is a nicely speedy downhill. Route markings: wooden posts with blue and white walking/skiing symbols, brown metal signs or wooden signs at intersections.
The route follows a wide and mostly hard ski track base, which is gravelled in many places. Approaching the Lampivaara climb, there are some clear single-track style riding trails. The climb to Lampivaara is steep and winding. The route is easy in difficulty, making it suitable for beginner mountain bikers, but good physical fitness is an advantage due to the altitude differences.

The route's starting point, Luostonportti, can be reached by driving from the village of Luosto, 500 meters up Luostontie from in front of Lapland Hotel Luostotunturi towards the slopes. Before the slopes, the road passes under an arch bridge, after which the Luostonportti starting point is found immediately on the left. There is a parking lot at the starting point.
The Luostonloma parking lot is located in the hollow between Ukko-Luosto and Keski-Luosto, just over 4 km from Luosto along the Pyhä-Luostontie towards Torvinen and Sodankylä. The parking lot is right next to the main road; there is no official parking area on the gravel road leading from the parking lot to Torvisen Maja.
